Rural–Urban Transitions through the Lens of Assemblage
TRANSITION Data Lab.
In this Data Lab, we will explore how place can be understood as dynamic, relational, and shaped through multiple connections across scales. Taking point of departure in Keith Woods et al. discussion of assemblage, place, and globalization, we will reflect on how places are produced through social, material, historical, and discursive relations rather than as fixed or bounded entities. The session invites discussion of how assemblage thinking can help us analyze change, continuity, and inequality in contexts marked by mobility, connection, and transformation. With a particular focus on rural–urban transitions, the Data Lab is open to anyone interested in theoretical and methodological approaches to studying place, spatial relations, and social change.
TRANSITION Data Labs are hands-on sessions where we gather to discuss theory, methods, and/or data relevant to research on rural–urban transitions. The format is inspired by public humanities approaches: open-ended, reflective, and collective. Data Labs are spaces for thinking together across disciplines and perspectives, rather than presenting finished results. If you are interested in joining this Data Lab, please register here.
