Reading of “Mærkedage” by Jens Smærup Sørensen
A TRANSITION Culture Club event
As part of the TRANSITION Culture Club, we are reading Mærkedage by Jens Smærup Sørensen. The novel portrays everyday lives in Denmark across the twentieth century and follows how social and historical change takes shape over time through work, family relations, and local communities. Rather than focusing on dramatic events, Mærkedage attends to gradual shifts and recurring moments that mark lives as society changes.
Jens Smærup Sørensen is a Danish author whose work engages with historical development and social change, often with a focus on rural life and everyday practices.
TRANSITION Culture Club is a shared reading format where we gather to read a selected literary text and explore how fiction can inform reflections on rural–urban transitions and historical change. Everyone with an interest in literature and societal transformation is welcome to join – please register here.
